The spring and autumn are good seasons to visit the woodlands when dappled light can create a magical effect. In the spring newly emerged leaves offer a range of shades of green and in May complement the carpets of Bluebells.

The Herons Café is situated in the Visitors Centre. You can enjoy a cup of tea or coffee along with a cake at very reasonable prices. What’s more if you want something more substantial we offer a full menu for you to choose from, be it a light lunch to a filling breakfast, view our menu here and we have a specials board each day.

Herons Café has served over 20,000 customers since it opened in October 2008. The cafe not only offers a warm and welcoming refreshment break for visitors to the Park, but also provides training, employment and work experience opportunities for people with learning disabilities. Over the past year 15 people have been trained and supported to gain work based skills with a view to helping them to make the move to paid employment.

Herons Café is aiming to develop an organic range of food complementary to its setting in the country park, where people can pick up a picnic to eat in the park or enjoy hand crafted cakes and sandwiches in the café after their walk.
